A new Digital Signage Federation (DSF) has been formed in the US, a federation which is claimed to be the digital signage industry’s first truly independent, industry-owned, not-for-profit trade association.

A new Digital Signage Federation (DSF) has been formed in the US, a federation which is claimed to be the digital signage industry’s first truly independent, industry-owned, not-for-profit trade association.

The association has reported that its membership has grown rapidly and is extending its  offer of six months free membership for an additional two weeks.

The organisation’s membership grew to nearly 150 as a result of promotion at the Digital Signage Expo 2010 during February.

John Johnson, DSF interim executive director, said, “Attendees and exhibitors alike complained that Digital Signage Expo was so busy they many just didn’t have time to take away from doing business on the floor, or attending what was the largest educational conference ever staged, to come by the booth to sign up,” explained  in the release.

The non-profit organisation “intends to be as inclusive as possible,” therefore it is allowing people to continue to register for the free six month trial period through Friday, March 12. After this period, “a reasonable dues structure” will be implemented.

Launched in February, the association is claiming that ii is a 'truly independent 501c non-profit association with legal and professional by-laws and an elected Board of Directors who represent a cross-section of the industry and are therefore motivated to act in the industry's best interest.' The organisation will provide 'a year-round education program for members and a full program of member services, featuring a vertical industry outreach program to bring the digital signage industry's message to thousands of end-users in 2011.'

It is not clear if Australian and New Zealand membership is available and if so what benefits would accrue.
