Just under a year ago, we reported on a falling out between Adobe and Pantone over inclusion of Pantone colour libraries in Adobe's popular applications, resulting in them being dropped by Adobe. Pantone Connect became a subscription service as a result. Now, designer blogs are full of outrage at an alleged doubling of subscription rates - and designers with Adobe subs having their colours changed to black!

Epson reports strong revenue growth despite supply shortages

Epson reported strong revenue and profit growth in its second quarter financial results, despite “skyrocketing” materials and logistics costs. Epson’s Q2 revenue of ¥335.2bn was up ¥66.8bn or 25% on the previous year, with ¥23.7bn in profit for the period (up ¥4.7bn).

Better beach signage could prevent surge in drownings: study

It's the Awards Season and the surprise event was the ProPrint magazine 'Top50' Awards held at Sydney's Shangri-La Ballroom at The Rocks. Around 350 industry people gathered there for a glittering evening hosted by Sam McCool of PacPrint fame and with Durst as the major sponsor and a raft of who's-who sponsors supporting them. Many of the awards went to wide-format related print houses, including the #1 spot to Keith Ferrel of Cactus Imaging. Andy McCourt was there.

Avery Dennison Q3 sales up 11.8% to $US2.3 billion

Avery Dennison Corporation said net sales for its third quarter ended October 1, 2022 increased by 11.8% to $2.3 billion - “despite ongoing inflationary pressures, currency headwinds and increasing economic uncertainty” - with earnings per share (EPS) up 38%. Label and Graphic Materials sales increased 12% to $1.5 billion.

Canon Q3 income up 9.7% to 54 billion yen ($A575m)

Canon also reported increased sales in its production printing business compared with the previous year, due to strong sales of its varioPRINT iX series of high-speed cut-sheet colour inkjet presses. But overall Printing Unit profit was down due to a decline in non-hardware sales.

Kellie Northwood named new CEO of PVCA

The Print & Visual Communication Association (PVCA) confirmed the appointment of Kellie Northwood as its chief executive officer following the recent merger with The Real Media Collective. Northwood is the first woman to lead the peak printing industry association in its 133-year history.

Kornit cuts hazardous waste and greenhouse gas emissions

Digital textile printer manufacturer Kornit Digital has released its second Impact Report that outlines the company’s aim to “transform the world of fashion and textiles into one that is more sustainable.”  Kornit recorded a 39% reduction in hazardous waste in 2021 and a 57% reduction in non-hazardous waste. 

Canon Colorado 1650 & UVgel ink approved for 3M Warranty

3M has approved Canon’s Colorado 1650 and its UVgel 460 ink for the 3M MCS Warranty program, which covers applications including sign & display and vehicle wraps. “UVgel is a breakthrough technology that is transforming the way wide format graphics and other applications are being produced," said Canon. 

300th EFI FabriVU 340 goes in
