Product Review – Mutoh XpertJet 1341SR Pro 54" printer by Andy McCourt

Sometimes several technologies come together at the right time to create outstanding products. The history of the printing press is written in such integrations – Gutenberg’s use of a screw wine grape press and, as a goldsmith, his knowledge of metallurgy and moulds to make moveable type for example. Today it’s about leveraging digital technologies and Mutoh has done this to great effect with the new XpertJet 1341SR Pro 54” (1370mm) roll printer.

Ovato’s 'extensive' restructuring improves cash flow

ASX-listed printer Ovato reported significantly lower net cash loss of $4.3 million (down from a loss of $23 million pcp) in its quarterly cash flow report for the three-months ended 31 December 2021. “Ovato continues to be adversely impacted financially and operationally by the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in Australia and in New Zealand."

Canon's print business reports 53% jump in profit for 2021

“Although sales were significantly affected by the unsettled situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, profit significantly exceeded pre-COVID 2019 profits,” Canon said. Production printing sales for 2021 rose by more than 15% compared to 2020, while profit increased 53% to ¥225.7bn. Total Canon Inc. group sales were up 11.2% to ¥3,513bn and operating profit surged 155% to ¥281.9bn.

Eastman Kodak Company has introduced a new ink system for Film-to-Fabric (also known as DTF or Direct-to-Film) printing projects. “We are pleased to announce the entry of Kodak into this market.” The company has produced digital inks for thermal piezo and continuous inkjet systems since the 1990’s.

Pandemic and supply chain disruption hit Xerox Q4 revenue

Print giant Xerox reported $US1.78 billion of revenue in the fourth quarter, down 7.9% or $US153 million year-over-year. Full year 2021 revenue was up 0.2% year over year (down 1.4% in constant currency) to $US7.04 billion.

Sneak preview of Mutoh's new XpertJet 1341SR Pro printer

Wide format Online was treated to a sneak preview of the first XpertJet 1341SR Pro 54" (1325mm) printer to land in Australia. A full review will appear next week but we can say with confidence that, for a low-cost 54" eco-solvent printer, the results are outstanding thanks to new printhead, screening, ripping and drop placement technologies. It's also considerably faster than the previous generation.
